The rise in bomb threats against Indian airlines shows no signs of stopping. On Friday, more than 20 aircraft from various airlines received bomb threats, according to Civil Aviation sources. Following security alerts for IndiGo flights, the airline released a statement emphasizing their commitment to safety: “In line with our strict safety protocols, all necessary precautions are being taken, and we are working closely with the relevant authorities. The safety and security of our customers and crew remain our highest priority. We regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ understanding during this time.”
Among the affected flights was IndiGo flight 6E 87, traveling from Kozhikode to Dammam. Upon landing, the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay, and all passengers were safely disembarked. IndiGo reiterated, “The safety and security of our customers and crew are paramount in all operations. We followed standard operating procedures and worked closely with the relevant authorities. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this situation may have caused.”
These incidents contribute to a growing pattern of threats that have disrupted both domestic and international operations, forcing airlines and authorities to prioritize passenger safety amidst ongoing security alerts. Just the day before, 20 flights operated by IndiGo received fresh security warnings. Over the past week, Indian airlines have faced more than 100 hoax bomb threats, leading to significant inconvenience for passengers and financial losses for the airlines. In response, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an advisory on Tuesday, recommending the establishment of a Special Wing of Cyber Commandos in all states.
