Hindu groups in Canada have started their celebrations, which will run from January 19 to 25, in anticipation of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya being consecrated on January 22. Screenings of the Ayodhya consecration ceremony are among these activities. The Hindu Canadian Foundation (HCF) has taken an active role, erecting billboards in the Greater Toronto Area to celebrate the day when the idol of Sri Ram will be consecrated in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Three cities—Brampton, Oakville, and Brantford—declare January 22, 2024, as Ayodhya Ram Mandir Day. The Mayor of Milton has also conveyed a congratulatory message. Mayor Patrick Brown of Brampton issued a proclamation stating that the day’s celebration would “serve as an opportunity for the community to honor and recognize the cultural and spiritual significance of this momentous occasion.”
A car rally featuring over 100 vehicles is scheduled to take place in the Greater Toronto Area on Saturday, with a 20-foot-long digital truck as a highlight. Additional rallies are planned on Sunday in Ottawa, Windsor (Ontario), and Surrey (British Columbia). The Hindu Society of Calgary is marking the consecration ceremony as Ramotsav.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad Canada has been actively collaborating with temples across the country in the weeks leading up to the event. More than 101 events are planned in Canada over the weekend and into Monday, spanning provinces such as Ontario, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Montreal, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Alberta. Manish Puri, representing VHP Canada, mentioned, “We’ve been working with temples across the country to understand their plans and encourage them to celebrate this joyous occasion.”
